Fuel Delivery Terminal

System: Siemens PCS 7

Overview

Dickinson Autocon Systems with assistance from Siemens Australia have designed, installed and commissioned a PCS 7 control system allowing monitoring and control of a fuel terminal. The terminal allows the delivery of up to 5 products to any one of 12 tanker filling arms using any of up to 9 pumps. The filling is initiated by drivers from the tanker loading area with minimal operator intervention. The terminal also allows monitoring of the inlet manifold, enabling the operator to correctly direct fuel to the appropriate tank based on density readings. In order to maintain safe operation, all activities and process conditions are continuously monitored and the appropriate control action taken.

Application Requirements

The customer required that the control system provide:

  • Process control and Safety / Shutdown functionality.
  • Operator intervention to be as infrequent and efficiently directed as possible.
  • Owing to the remote location; once installed, that engineering involvement to be reduced to as low as possible.
  • A high level of security in order to ensure that operators are only able to control aspects of the system in accordance with their level of training and experience.
